DIY >> Suitcase Kitty Bed

Do you have problems with kitties laying everywhere?! Well I do, and I have just the solution for you!

Lately we have had an abundance of hair on furniture, because, well, the cats lay where they want (with the exception of counters/table of course). So the wheels in my head have been turning...

I have a few suitcases laying around, and I have seen those awesome beds they make for pets, but what about a nice mid century style to match our condo?? So, I had this ottoman, the vinyl had cracked so we decided to salvage the legs and throw the rest out.

Then I remembered that one of my suitcases was becoming quite tattered on top because the cats liked to jump on them. So. We went to work.

 I began by opening the suitcase and cutting the lining that covered the back seam.

Once we completed that we then had to bend the brackets for the hinge. (Note: Not every suitcase may be like this)

I recommend having a helper.

Be sure to have a great puppy helper too once the piece is off!

Once you have the top and bottom separated (I recommend using the bottom for your bed part) then you need to get your legs, some bolts and nuts, a screw driver, and a pair of pliers.

We used flat bolts so they wouldnt poke the animals, so we used a pointed screw to make a hole, then put the bolt through, and put the nut on the other side. Once you have the nut attached, then hold the nut in place with pliers and turn the bolt with a screw driver ( I recommend a helper for this too!)

When you complete all your legs, you can then purchase a pet pillow for the inside, or make one like I did. We used fabric and a human pillow!

There you have it! She loves it!

AT HOME >> Party Ideas

So, we moved in around the beginning of March, and we STILL havent had our friends over yet. Im a little embarassed to say that I am so ocd about making sure the condo is exactly how we would like it. I suppose that Alex really doesnt care too much. I love that hes always offering an opinion though, that makes me a happy girl! To conclude this story very shortly, we have decided to have a small gathering(formalish party) of Alex's friends. This excites me because I like to see the reaction of peoples faces when they see the retro decor that Alex and I love so very much. Myself especially. AT HOME >> Clean Up Closet style

So this is a bit embarrassing to show, but yes everyone, this is my closet. Before... I cant blame this mess on anyone else but myself. Alex has his own closet and believe it or not, its cleaner than mine! Lately we have been so busy and I just throw stuff in there! I cant believe I do this, but I do. Ugh. Time to clean up this mess!

First of all, I have tons of accessories and no where to really store them. I first took everything from the closet out. Some things no longer fit, or they were old and needed thrown out/donated.

I have about a bagillion belts, about a quarter of which had broken and I told myself I would fix them eventually. Or they didn't fit. Lucky for me once I took everything out of my closet, I noticed the person who lived in our condo before us had made many adjustments with nails, so there were multiple nails for me to hang things from!

I started with the belts. I utilized the nails that were already located in the wood. If you are worried about nailing anything in your walls, I highly recommend the sticky adhesive hangers that you can remove when you are done with them. I believe they are made by 3M or scotch. Once I did that I decided to organize my shoes, and purses, another great thing about our closets are that there are lower shelves built in for shoes!

I hung the purses then went on to the scarves. I purchased an Ikea item that you can hang scarves/ties/etc on!

It worked great!

I also used the wire beam for hanging some of my lighter rope like belts.

I used some baskets to replace card board boxes, and to hold smaller wallets and clutches.

Then finally relocated my dresses and clothes. Woo hoo! A clean closet. Since I did this clean up about a week or two ago, my closet is actually still not bad! Im proud!
